Driving Lessons in Mill Hill

Mill Hill is the quieter of the two North-West London test centres, and NW7 is a genuinely pleasant place to learn: leafy residential roads for the early lessons, the Broadway for a bit of bustle, and the A1 and A41 right there when you are ready for speed. DVSA-approved instructors, manual or automatic.

First 2-hour lesson from £75 for new learners on a UK provisional licence. Start with the guided booking — a few questions, your postcode, and you see who covers NW7.

Driving in NW7

What driving in Mill Hill teaches you

The hill in the name is real. Add a busy high street and two of the fastest roads in North London and you have a place that covers most of the driving test syllabus without going far from home.

Mill Hill Broadway

Shops, a station, buses and people crossing where they like. The Broadway is where you practise crawling speed, pedestrian awareness and pulling out of side roads into a stream of traffic that does not want to let you in.

Hills and lanes

Hill starts, hill stops and narrow roads with a bend you cannot see round. In a manual this is where clutch control is earned; in an automatic it is about brake control and not rolling. Either way, it is confidence you will use for life.

The A1 and the A41

Both run past Mill Hill, and the test can use them. Slip roads, keeping a safe gap at higher speed and planning your exit early are taught here properly — and once you have them, motorway driving later is a small step, not a leap.

Mill Hill test centre

A popular centre for a first test

Mill Hill mixes quieter residential routes with faster A-roads, which is why plenty of learners choose it. If you book your practical test there — you do that with the DVSA — your instructor plans your lessons around the centre, and the booking wizard lets you add a mock test at your chosen centre when you are close to ready.

Manual lessons

NW7’s hills make it one of the better places to learn a clutch properly. Pass in a manual and your licence covers automatics too.

Manual lessons in detail

Automatic lessons

Common questions

Driving lessons in Mill Hill — FAQs

Can my lessons be planned around the Mill Hill test centre?

Yes. Mill Hill is one of the centres we cover. Book your test with the DVSA, tell your instructor the date and centre, and the lessons leading up to it are built around the roads examiners use from there. A mock test at your chosen centre can be added through the booking wizard.

How much are driving lessons in Mill Hill?

£47.50 an hour in 2-hour lessons (£95). A first lesson is £75 for complete beginners on a UK provisional, or £85 with previous lessons. Block packages from 10 hours (£465) to 40 hours (£1,760) reduce the hourly rate.

Is Mill Hill an easy place to learn to drive?

Easier to start in than central London, because the residential roads are calm — but it has hills, a busy Broadway and fast A-roads nearby, so you finish as a rounded driver rather than someone who has only ever crawled through traffic.

Do I book my own driving test?

Yes — students book their theory and practical tests directly with the DVSA. Your instructor will tell you honestly when you are ready, and can provide the car for the test day if you want it.
