Everything you need to know before booking your lessons with West London Driving School
01
Absolutely! You can start your driving lessons even if you haven't passed your theory test yet. Many of our students find it helpful to learn the theory while practising behind the wheel — real-world experience often makes the theory easier to understand and remember.
You must have a provisional driving licence before starting lessons on public roads. You can apply online via the DVLA website at gov.uk. You must be at least 15 years and 9 months old to apply, and your licence typically arrives within 1–3 weeks.
Yes. If you have an international licence, you may need 10–20 hours of training including mock tests and test route practice. An initial assessment lesson with an instructor will help determine exactly what's needed and ensure you're fully prepared for the UK driving test.

Each lesson is a minimum of two hours. This ensures plenty of time for practice and progress, and typically results in fewer lessons overall — making it better value and more effective for your learning.
Unfortunately not. Two-hour lessons are considerably more effective for learning and progression. The additional time allows instructors to cover more ground, tackle a wider range of scenarios, and consolidate skills within a single session.
According to the DVSA, most learners need around 47 hours of professional lessons and 22 hours of private practice. Typically, students at West London Driving School need about 30 hours without private practice — above the national average thanks to our structured, high-quality tuition.
Yes, some instructors offer evening sessions. Please note there may be an additional charge for lessons outside regular daytime hours. Contact us or check the booking page for availability in your area.
Yes, we offer weekend lessons subject to instructor availability. Please enquire via our website or WhatsApp for more information on weekend slot availability in your area.
Yes, we offer intensive courses which allow you to qualify in a shorter period of time — ideal if you have an upcoming deadline or test date. Contact us to discuss the best package for your needs and we'll build a schedule around your availability.
Yes. Motorway sessions are a minimum of three hours and cost £210. Typically the route goes towards Oxford via the M40, with 30 minutes of leeway built in for traffic. These sessions are an excellent way to build confidence on high-speed roads in a structured, safe environment.

Our 2026 hourly rate is £47.50 with a two-hour minimum per session. We also offer discounted packages for bulk bookings — perfect for those who want to plan ahead and make a saving.
In 2024, learning to drive may cost between £1,965 and £2,448 in total, covering lessons, theory test fees, and practical test fees. For a full breakdown visit GOV.UK or our website.
Yes. Our Test Day Package is £260 for approximately three hours, including pick-up, warm-up practice on the test routes, use of the vehicle for the practical test itself, and drop-off afterwards. This is available to regular students only.
Unfortunately this package is only available to regular students or those who have completed an assessment lesson with us. This ensures we can vouch for your standard and give you the best possible chance of passing on test day.
Unfortunately we don't offer student discounts at this time. However, our bulk booking packages represent excellent value and can significantly reduce your overall cost per lesson.
How a refund reaches you depends on how you paid: card payments go back to the card you paid with, and cash or bank transfer payments are refunded by bank transfer. Discretionary refunds are processed on the last Friday of each month. Refunds under your 14-day right to cancel are not batched — those are paid within 14 days. Please refer to our terms and conditions for full details on eligibility and timescales.

Manual lessons teach you to drive with a gearbox and clutch, giving you a full licence that covers both manual and automatic vehicles. Automatic lessons are generally easier to learn as there are no gear changes required — however your licence will only cover automatic cars. We offer both and can help you decide which is right for you.
Yes, we have instructors who teach in automatic transmission vehicles. Please visit our booking page to book with an automatic instructor and check availability in your area.

Your instructor can pick you up from home, work, or another convenient location that suits you both. Flexibility is key to making your lessons stress-free and fitting seamlessly into your day.
We teach across West and Central London. That includes Notting Hill, Kensington, South Kensington, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Holland Park, Ladbroke Grove, Paddington, Bayswater, Maida Vale, Hammersmith, Fulham, Parsons Green, Chiswick and Acton, and north of the park in Queens Park, Kilburn, West Hampstead, Swiss Cottage, Willesden, Harlesden, Cricklewood, Marylebone, Baker Street, Edgware Road, Marble Arch and Harrow Road.
If your postcode isn't on that list it's still worth asking — we can often pick up just outside it. See the full map on our Areas We Cover section, or message us on WhatsApp and we'll confirm.
Unfortunately not at the moment, but we hope to expand to those areas in the near future. If you're just outside our coverage zone, feel free to get in touch — we'll do our best to find a solution.

We currently do not assist with booking tests directly due to high demand. We recommend using the official DVSA website or third-party apps that can help find earlier available dates for a small fee — these can be very useful for securing a slot sooner than the standard waiting time.
We don't publish a single school-wide figure, because we'd only be able to stand behind it if every instructor's results were recorded the same way over the same period — and we're not going to quote a number we can't evidence.
What we can tell you plainly: our instructors are all DVSA-approved, a large proportion of our learners pass first time, and most of our work comes from people recommended to us by someone we already taught. Our testimonials and Google reviews are the honest version of a pass rate — they're written by the learners themselves.
One figure we do hold records for is Mohammed's own teaching between February 2014 and February 2018:
64%
1st attempt
23%
2nd attempt
12%
3rd attempt
1%
4th attempt
Those are Mohammed's personal results from that period, not a school average, and they're shown here as his record rather than a promise about your own test.

Most vehicles are hatchbacks, fully insured and fitted with dual controls for your safety. Some of our instructors use Ford Focus cars. All vehicles are regularly maintained and serviced to ensure a safe, comfortable learning environment.
Yes, most of our instructors can teach learners with different needs. Please enquire via our website with specific details about your requirements and we will do our very best to accommodate you and match you with the most suitable instructor.
Use the booking page. You pick your service, choose an instructor, then pick a slot from their live availability — the times shown are their real free slots, not a generic timetable.
Every booking is a request until your instructor confirms it. If you pay by card, we only place a hold on it at that point — nothing is taken until your instructor accepts the lesson, and if they can't make it the hold is released and you're charged nothing. You can also pay your instructor directly in person.
You'll get an email confirming the request, and a second one once it's accepted. After your first lesson you can book follow-ups with your instructor at the end of each session, through your student dashboard, or on WhatsApp.
