Hendon is faster than the inner-London postcodes. The roads are wider, the limits are higher and the junctions are bigger, so the skills that matter most here are reading the road early and choosing a lane before you need it.
The A41 and the A406 are dual carriageways with slip roads, and they are part of everyday driving around here. Joining, leaving and holding a steady speed among lorries is something you learn with dual controls beside you, not on test day.
The roads around the shopping centre are busy, well signed and full of lane arrows. Getting into the right lane for the right exit, without being pushed by the car behind, is the skill that turns big junctions from frightening into routine.
The Edgware Road through Colindale gives you a straightforward main road for early lessons, and the streets either side are where manoeuvres get practised: bay parking, reversing round a corner and pulling up on the right.
You book your practical test with the DVSA yourself. Tell your instructor it is at Hendon and your lessons are built around that: the roads examiners use from the centre, the junctions that catch people out, and at least one full run-through before the day. Nearer the time, the booking wizard offers a mock test at your chosen centre so the real one is not the first time you have done it.
