Driving Lessons in Hendon, Brent Cross & Colindale

Learn where you will be tested. Hendon has its own DVSA test centre, the A41 Watford Way and the North Circular run through it, and Brent Cross adds the kind of multi-lane junctions examiners like. Lessons are planned around the Hendon centre if that is where you book your test, with DVSA-approved instructors in manual or automatic.

Your first 2-hour lesson is from £75 on a UK provisional licence if you have never driven before. Answer a few questions in the guided booking and it shows you who covers NW4, NW2 and NW9.

Driving in NW4

What driving in Hendon teaches you

Hendon is faster than the inner-London postcodes. The roads are wider, the limits are higher and the junctions are bigger, so the skills that matter most here are reading the road early and choosing a lane before you need it.

Watford Way and the North Circular

The A41 and the A406 are dual carriageways with slip roads, and they are part of everyday driving around here. Joining, leaving and holding a steady speed among lorries is something you learn with dual controls beside you, not on test day.

Brent Cross

The roads around the shopping centre are busy, well signed and full of lane arrows. Getting into the right lane for the right exit, without being pushed by the car behind, is the skill that turns big junctions from frightening into routine.

Colindale and the A5

The Edgware Road through Colindale gives you a straightforward main road for early lessons, and the streets either side are where manoeuvres get practised: bay parking, reversing round a corner and pulling up on the right.

Lessons planned around the test you have booked

You book your practical test with the DVSA yourself. Tell your instructor it is at Hendon and your lessons are built around that: the roads examiners use from the centre, the junctions that catch people out, and at least one full run-through before the day. Nearer the time, the booking wizard offers a mock test at your chosen centre so the real one is not the first time you have done it.

Manual lessons

Clutch control on Hendon’s junctions and confident gear changes on its faster roads. A manual pass lets you drive anything afterwards.

Automatic lessons

All of your attention on the road, none on the gearbox — useful when the road is the North Circular. No surcharge over manual.

Common questions

Driving lessons in Hendon — FAQs

Do you teach on the Hendon test centre routes?

Yes. Hendon is one of the test centres we cover, so once your test is booked there your lessons are planned around it, and the booking wizard offers a mock test at your chosen centre. You still book the practical test itself with the DVSA.

How much are driving lessons in Hendon?

£47.50 an hour in 2-hour lessons (£95), with a first lesson at £75 for complete beginners on a UK provisional or £85 if you have had lessons before. Blocks of 10, 20, 30 and 40 hours are £465, £920, £1,350 and £1,760.

I live in Brent Cross or Colindale — am I covered?

Yes, Hendon, Brent Cross and Colindale are all on our areas list (NW4, NW2 and NW9). Enter your postcode in the guided booking and the instructors who cover it appear first; if nobody covers it yet, it says so rather than leaving you guessing.

Is Hendon a hard place to take your test?

It has faster roads and bigger junctions than the inner-London centres, so it rewards learners who are comfortable at speed and confident choosing lanes. That is exactly what lessons here practise, and it is why we suggest a mock test at the centre before the real thing.

Can I learn in an automatic around Hendon?

Yes, at the same price as manual. Choose “Automatic” in the guided booking and you see the automatic instructors for your postcode. More on our automatic lessons in North-West London page.
