Driving Lessons in Acton: Acton Town, North Acton & East Acton

Acton has no test centre of its own, two level crossings on one road, the A40 on its northern edge and some of London’s biggest roadworks at Old Oak. We teach both manual and automatic across W3, picking you up from home, work, college or the station.

A first two-hour lesson is £75 for a complete beginner, or £85 if you have had lessons. Choose manual or automatic in the guided booking, add your W3 postcode, and it shows who covers your street.

Manual or automatic, both are taught in Acton.

What learning in Acton teaches you

Few parts of London fit this much into one postcode: railway crossings, a fast arterial road, long-running construction and busy high streets.

The Bollo Lane level crossings

Bollo Lane, between Acton Town and Chiswick Park, has two level crossings, a rarity in London. Waiting at the barriers, never stopping on the crossing and moving off safely once they lift are things most London learners only read about. Here you practise them for real.

Gypsy Corner and the A40

Where Horn Lane meets the A40 Western Avenue in North Acton. A planning study for the area found serious congestion here at peak times. It is the place to learn lane choice on a busy junction and joining a fast road with confidence.

HS2 at Old Oak Common

Old Oak Common Lane has HS2 traffic management in place, with HS2 giving an estimated end of April 2027. Temporary lights, narrowed lanes and diversions are part of driving in Acton for now, and examiners expect you to handle them.

Acton High Street and Horn Lane

The Uxbridge Road through Acton and Horn Lane carry buses, loading vans and crossings, with camera enforcement. They teach patience, mirror checks and holding back when a gap isn’t really there.

Which test centre from Acton?

Acton has no test centre, so learners here choose. The three within reach have very different records.

41.4%
Greenford pass rate, April 2025 to March 2026

The nearest by road for many, but the lowest of the three. Median wait in September 2026: 18.4 weeks.

50.4%
Isleworth (Fleming Way) pass rate

About level with Great Britain’s 50.0%. Median wait in September 2026: 20.9 weeks.

44.8%
Southall pass rate

In between, with the shortest median wait of the three in September 2026: 5.4 weeks.

Which centre you book first matters more than it used to: since 9 June 2026 a test can only move to one of the three centres nearest the one you booked. Your instructor will help you choose before you book. Figures for all nine centres are on our test centres page.

Common questions

Driving lessons in Acton: FAQs

Is there a driving test centre in Acton?

No. Acton learners usually test at Greenford, Isleworth (Fleming Way) or Southall. Their pass rates from April 2025 to March 2026 were 41.4%, 50.4% and 44.8% (DVSA).

What do I do at a level crossing on my test?

Stop at the white line when the lights flash or the barriers come down, wait until the barriers are fully up and the lights are off, and never stop on the crossing itself. We practise on the Bollo Lane crossings so it is familiar long before your test.

Do you teach manual or automatic in Acton?

Both. Pick your gearbox when you book and you will only see instructors who teach it and cover W3.

Can I learn if I have no car to practise in?

Yes, many Acton learners do. It usually means more professional hours, so plan for a block of lessons and keep them regular.

How much are driving lessons in Acton?

£47.50 an hour in two-hour lessons, manual or automatic. First two hours: £75 as a complete beginner, £85 if you have had lessons. Then £95 per lesson, less in blocks.
