Driving in TW3–TW5

What learning in Hounslow teaches you

Hounslow’s red routes, camera-enforced bus lanes and school streets reward a driver who reads signs early. These are the places we build that habit.

Henlys roundabout, Hounslow West

Where the A4 Bath Road, the A30 and the A312 meet: a large, busy TfL roundabout. The London Cycling Campaign lists it among Hounslow’s most dangerous junctions for pedestrians. We practise lane choice by exit and reading the road markings early, long before you arrive.

Gillette Corner, Great West Road

The A4 Great West Road at Syon Lane, which the London Cycling Campaign named the borough’s most dangerous junction for people on foot (2018–22 records). Both roads turn up on drives towards Isleworth test centre, so you will meet it before your test.

Hounslow High Street and the bus station

Buses leave the bus station all day, and Hounslow enforces its bus lanes by camera. It is the best place we know to learn bus awareness: reading lane times, leaving room at stops and expecting the bus that pulls out.

School Streets and 20mph

Hounslow lists 34 School Streets, closed to traffic at drop-off and pick-up and enforced by camera. Pears Road, by Hounslow Town Primary, is one. Most residential roads are 20mph under the borough’s 2026 order.

Driving here on a licence from abroad?

Many Hounslow residents learned to drive somewhere else. If you hold a full licence from outside the UK, you can usually drive on it for 12 months after you become resident; after that you need a GB licence, and for many countries that means passing the theory and practical tests. Check your country on gov.uk. A first two-hour lesson for an overseas licence holder is £95, and it shows you exactly what to change for a UK test.
