Uxbridge driving test centre: pass rate, waits and the theory test

Uxbridge’s practical test centre is in the Trade City business park off Cowley Mill Road, UB8, and the town also has the area’s theory test centre. Both are in DVSA’s own figures below: how often people pass, how long they wait, and what changed in 2026.

Pass rates

Uxbridge’s practical pass rate, year by year

Uxbridge has gone from below the national rate to above it in two years. Its smaller size also means its numbers move more from year to year than a big centre’s.

2021/224,54650.9%52.2%48.8%48.9%

The 2025/26 total is lower partly because the centre ran no car tests at all from November 2025 to January 2026 (see the waits below). The gap between men and women here is small, about five points in 2025/26 and under one point the year before.

Automatic or manual

Automatic tests at Uxbridge

About a third of Uxbridge’s tests are in an automatic, above the national 29.5%, and the automatic pass rate has climbed fast.

Waiting times

Waits at Uxbridge, month by month

DVSA’s measure is the median number of weeks between booking a test and taking it, for people tested that month. Uxbridge’s wait has risen sharply over the past year.

DVSA’s figures show no car tests at Uxbridge from November 2025 to January 2026, and only a handful in February as it restarted; DVSA’s tables don’t give a reason. Since then the median wait has climbed from about 7 weeks to 16. Across London it was 14.3 weeks in September 2026, and 11.6 across Great Britain.

Theory test

The Uxbridge theory test centre

Uxbridge is also where many learners in this part of West London take their car theory test, and its pass rate is well below the national figure.

38.1%
theory pass rate, 2025/26

83,604 car theory tests, against 44.8% across Great Britain. Men passed 36.4%, women 40.6%.

38.2%
the year before, 2024/25

So it is not a one-off: the same gap, two years running.

2 years
how long a theory pass lasts

You must pass the practical within two years of your theory test, or take the theory again.

DVSA doesn’t explain the gap, and many factors could sit behind it, including who books there. What helps any learner: practise the questions and the hazard perception clips until you pass mock tests comfortably, then book. Your WLDS instructor can talk you through hazard perception on real roads as you drive.

The centre and its roads

Cowley Mill Road and the roads around it

DVSA no longer publishes test routes, and they change. These are the kinds of road Uxbridge tests use.

Trade City, off Cowley Mill Road, UB8

The centre is in a business park on the west side of Uxbridge, so the first and last minutes of a test are around an industrial estate: vans, lorries and junctions where you need to look properly before pulling out.

The A40 and Hillingdon Circus

Guides to the centre published online describe routes that use the A40 corridor. Joining a fast dual carriageway at the right speed and leaving it in good time are worth practising until they feel routine.

Uxbridge Road and the town

The A4020 and the roads around the town centre bring bus lanes, traffic lights and pedestrians. Read every bus-lane sign for its times, and keep your speed down where people cross.
